Carter Burden began acquiring Indian paintings during the 1960’s, a time when many examples were being offered in America for the first time. The Burden collection contains many good examples from most of the Rajasthani states, and in many of the recognized Pahari styles.
Notable pieces include: Radah While at Her Bath Daydreams of Krishna on Horseback, Bundi, early 18th century; Bhairavi Ragini: a Princely Musician with a lady at night, Kotah, circa 1740; Matsya Avatar, Kangra, early 19th century.
