An Album of Buddhist Paintings from Sri Lanka (Ceylon) (Kandy Period)
Author: Siri Gunasinghe
213 pages with essay and 40 full-page color plates and description. Murals from twenty-two temples in various districts of Sri Lanka, all from the Kandy Period. ‘This publication is no more than an attempt to put together a handful of examples from what can be considered the last pre-modern school of painting in Sri Lanka. Some years back when hundreds of small Buddhist shrines scattered all over the central and southern provinces of the island were found to be fast crumbling along with what were once very beautiful murals. I suggested to the then Arts council of Ceylon that at least the better part of these murals should be photographed and preserved.’
